Scope

This privacy policy is intended to inform the users of the MKVToolNix software package about the type, scope and purpose of collection and use of personal data.

In short, no personally identifiable data is collected by any of the programs that make up the MKVToolNix software package.

The Matroska files created by these programs can contain the following pieces of data unless configured not to: the date & time when the file was created; the version number of MKVToolNix used to write the file. No data related to the person or the machine creating the files is ever written to the files.

If enabled, the MKVToolNix GUI will make online connections at most once a day in order to check whether or not there are newer versions available. This is an HTTP GET request via HTTPS to the following URL: https://mkvtoolnix.download/latest-release.xml.gz The GET requests includes the following HTTP headers:

Accept-Language: en-US,*
Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate
Connection: Keep-Alive
Host: mkvtoolnix.download

These update check requests are logged in server-side log files. Those log files are kept for up to five days for purposes of analyzing potential server-side configuration issues. IP addresses are anonymized only their net addresses are stored (for IPv4: down to the containing /16; for IPv6: down to the containing /32).

No data from these requests is ever made available to any third party.
